Over thirty members of the GLS community gathered for a day of fellowship and football (Kansas State vs. TCU) at the annual GLS game day gathering. The gathering was highlighted by an inaugural tailgater hosted by GLS Adviser Kyle Powers in West Stadium Parking Lot directly outside the main gate of Bill Snyder Family Stadium. Kyle, a Manhattan real estate broker, is part of the GLS donor network assisting GLS scholars as a local advisor. The tailgater was attended by GLS scholars, their parents & families, along with GLS alumni Cliff Gilbert, Terry Huffman, Randy Sims, Powers and invited guests. The tailgater provided a great opportunity for everyone to meet and get to know each other, and enjoy a great spread of tailgate food and beverages. Kyle Powers was impressed with the turnout, “the afternoon kick-off (and great weather) made it possible for everyone to attend; it was a great atmosphere.”
Following the tailgater, GLS founding benefactor Terry Huffman hosted Class of 25 GLS scholars and their parents at his Bill Snyder Family Stadium suite. The gathering was attended by Carson Anderson, his parents Josh & Karen Anderson, Alex Berger, his parents Mike & Kristy Berger, and Randy Sims.
Alex Berger shared his appreciation on behalf of the group, “To attend the first GLS tailgate, and then watch an exciting game from the suite was an incredible experience! We enjoyed connecting with GLS alumni and other GLS parents. I’m honored to be part of the GLS family.” Terry Huffman added, “I’m delighted to meet the new GLS scholars and their parents. GLS is quickly growing into something special.”
The GLS game day gathering has become an annual event and highlights a key distinguishing feature of GLS: scholarship recipients (and their families) interact with GLS donors through coordinated communications and activities.
