Paxton Etheredge wasn’t sure what to expect when he got to K-State. That is, he knew there would be classes and homework and other academic duties, but otherwise college life was a bit of a mystery. He was struck by the lack of rigidity in his new schedule.
“In high school, your days are designed for you from sunup to sundown,” Etheredge said. “You go from school to practice to dinner, and everything else had to wait until later in the evenings. Now I can do my homework at 10 a.m. if I want—get ahead of things.”
A leader is someone who acts with purpose and competence, who exhibits good values and who places the entire group’s best interests before his or hers.

2024 GLS Scholar
He immediately felt at home among the other K-State students and was soon enjoying dinners and football games with fellow Goodnow Hall residents. His uncertainty having shifted to bigger questions, Etheredge is prepared to lean on the GLS for support.
“If we were to have questions about life, like about where we are now and what our next steps should be, the other GLS scholars and GLS alumni mentors will be right there to share their experiences and help us with those decisions,” he said.

Etheredge is the second oldest of five children. In high school, he participated in Ecology Club, KAY club, cross country, track and field and peer ministry. He was an active member of Wichita’s Church of the Resurrection, recently serving as a Totus Tuus missionary throughout south-central Kansas helping youth reach their full potential.
Currently the only K-State student majoring in integrated computer science—a program that was created just two years ago—Etheredge is fascinated with technology and its potential. Like most incoming freshmen, he likes the broad range of options available within the topic and will narrow his focus in time.
“It's such a privilege to be given an active role in building something new and great at K-State,” Etheredge said. “The founders put so much thought into the creation of this organization, and it’s clear they’re really passionate about building better men to make a difference in this world.”
